Texas Trash Pie is a luscious dessert combining sweet, salty, and crunchy elements baked into a flaky pie crust. Made with simple pantry ingredients, this pie is quick to prepare, versatile, and adored by many. It offers a rich blend of chocolate, butterscotch, coconut, pretzels, and pecans, all bound together by sweetened condensed milk for a gooey, indulgent treat.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 8 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 can (14 oz/396g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut
  • 1/2 cup crushed pretzels
  • 1/2 cup crushed graham crackers
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and position rack in the center.
  2. Fit the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, pressing gently and pricking the bottom with a fork.
  3. In a large bowl, combine chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, shredded coconut, crushed pretzels, crushed graham crackers, chopped pecans, and salt. Mix well.
  4. Add sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir until all ingredients are evenly coated and combined.
  5. Spoon the filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until edges are golden and filling is bubbling. Cover crust edges with foil if they brown too quickly.
  7. Remove from oven and cool completely on a wire rack, at least 2 hours, before slicing and serving. Refrigerate to firm up if desired.

Notes

Use a deep-dish pie plate if possible to accommodate filling.

For a different flavor, substitute chips or nuts based on preference.

Cooling time is essential for clean slices and proper texture.

Store leftovers covered in the fridge.
