Ingredients
Scale
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2–3 tbsp milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Peel, core, and dice the apples into small cubes. Toss them with half of the cinnamon and nutmeg, then set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, remaining cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Fold gently until just combined; do not overmix.
- Fold in the spiced apple cubes, making sure they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Lightly grease the plates with melted butter or cooking spray.
- Spoon batter into the waffle maker, filling each section about three-quarters full.
- Close the lid and cook for 3–5 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through. Adjust cooking time based on your waffle maker’s heat settings.
- Remove the donuts carefully and place them on a wire rack to cool slightly.
- In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar and 2–3 tablespoons milk until smooth to make the glaze. Adjust thickness if needed.
- Dip one side of each warm donut into the glaze, allowing excess to drip off, and return to the rack. Let the glaze set before serving.
Notes
Use Granny Smith apples for tartness or Honeycrisp for a sweeter flavor.
Pat apples dry before adding to batter to avoid excess moisture.
For a richer glaze, replace milk with cream.
