Ingredients
Scale
- 2 slices of bread (whole-grain, sourdough, or choice)
- 1 ripe avocado
- 2 slices of cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
- 1 teaspoon olive oil or butter
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional: sliced tomato, spinach, or fresh herbs
Instructions
- Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a bowl. Mash gently with a fork, leaving small chunks for texture. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Spread a thin layer of butter or brush olive oil on one side of each bread slice.
- Spread mashed avocado on the unbuttered side of one slice of bread.
- Layer cheese slices on top of the avocado. Add optional ingredients if desired.
- Place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side facing out.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook the sandwich for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula.
- Flip carefully to ensure cheese melts evenly. Reduce heat and cover for 1 minute if needed.
- Remove from skillet and serve immediately, sliced diagonally.
Notes
Day-old bread works best for extra crispiness.
Use a combination of cheeses for richer flavor.
Leftover avocado can be stored with a little lemon juice to prevent browning.
Optional vegetables enhance both nutrition and flavor.
