Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
- Optional: 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp dried herbs, or fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Stir gently and let sit for 5–7 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Pour in olive oil or melted butter, then mix until a rough dough forms.
- Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes by hand or 5–6 minutes with a stand mixer until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 45–60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- While the dough rises, shred your cheese. If desired, mix cheese with garlic powder or herbs.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle. Spread cheese evenly, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Roll the dough tightly from one long side to the other, sealing the seam. For a twist loaf, slice lengthwise, twist the halves, and place in a loaf pan.
- Transfer to a greased loaf pan or lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise for 20–30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush dough with olive oil or melted butter. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- Let cool for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
Notes
You can use a blend of cheeses for deeper flavor.
Add chopped cooked turkey bacon or chicken ham for a protein boost.
Fresh herbs can be kneaded into the dough or sprinkled on top before baking.
For extra flavor, brush with garlic butter after baking.
