Cheesy Egg Toast is a simple yet satisfying breakfast that combines toasted bread, eggs, and melted cheese into a warm and comforting dish. It is quick to prepare, affordable, and customizable with different toppings, making it a versatile choice for both busy mornings and family brunches.

  • Total Time: 13 minutes
  • Yield: 4 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices of bread (white, whole wheat, or sourdough)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Optional toppings: fresh herbs (parsley, chives), chicken ham, or turkey bacon

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients and keep them ready for easy cooking.
  2. Lightly spread butter on one side of each bread slice. Place the slices butter-side down.
  3. Using the back of a spoon, press the center of the bread to create a shallow well.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place bread slices in the skillet, butter-side down.
  5. Crack one egg into the center of each slice. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  6. Add shredded cheese generously around the bread edges and lightly over the egg.
  7. If desired, sprinkle chicken ham, turkey bacon, or fresh herbs on top of the cheese.
  8. Cover the skillet with a lid and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the egg is set and the cheese melts.
  9. Remove the lid and let the underside crisp for 1 more minute.
  10. Lift the toast carefully with a spatula and serve warm.

Notes

For softer yolks, reduce cooking time slightly.

For firmer eggs, cook 1 to 2 minutes longer.

Customize with vegetables such as spinach, bell peppers, or tomatoes for added nutrition.

Use a mix of cheeses for extra richness and flavor.
