- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup pure maple syrup (plus extra for glaze)
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in vanilla extract and ½ cup maple syrup until combined.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix gently until just combined.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
- In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar with ¼ cup maple syrup until smooth to make the glaze.
- Spread the glaze evenly over the warm bars. Let cool completely before slicing into squares.
Notes
Do not overmix the batter to keep the bars tender.
Bars can be topped with chopped nuts for added texture.
Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
