- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ cup milk
For the Icing:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (as needed)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, sift and whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream softened butter with brown and granulated sugars until light and fluffy.
- Beat in egg, then add maple syrup and vanilla extract until combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients alternated with milk, mixing gently.
- Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart; flatten slightly if desired.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, until set but still soft in the center.
- Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Prepare icing by whisking powdered sugar and maple syrup; add milk gradually until smooth.
- Spread icing over cooled cookies and let set for about 30 minutes.
Notes
Avoid overmixing dough to keep cookies tender.
Cool cookies completely before icing to prevent melting.
Customize with nuts or spices if desired.
