Ingredients
- 1 pre-baked pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped pecans (or substitute walnuts, almonds, or cashews)
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the pre-baked crust on a baking sheet.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture into the cooled pie crust.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the edges are firm and the center is slightly wobbly. Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack.
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar until dissolved.
- Add the chopped pecans and cook for two to three minutes, stirring constantly until coated.
- Spoon the praline mixture over the cooled custard pie, spreading evenly across the surface.
- Serve warm for a softer topping or refrigerate for four hours for a firmer texture.
Notes
Use turkey bacon, chicken ham, or beef as substitutes if adapting other similar recipes that call for pork products.
No wine or alcoholic ingredients are required in this recipe.
For a creamier custard, replace half the milk with heavy cream.
For extra flavor, a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg can be added to the custard mixture.
