- 1 medium head of green cabbage, shredded
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: 1 small carrot, grated
Instructions
- Remove outer leaves of the cabbage and shred evenly. Slice onion thinly and grate carrot if using.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, coating the bottom of the pan.
- Add onions and sauté for 3–4 minutes until soft and translucent, stirring frequently.
- Gradually add shredded cabbage, stirring to mix with onions. Cook 5–7 minutes until slightly softened.
- Drizzle apple cider vinegar and add honey or brown sugar. Stir thoroughly to combine.
- Season with salt and black pepper, adjusting to taste. Optionally, add grated carrot or chili flakes.
- Continue cooking for 5–8 minutes until cabbage is tender but slightly crisp. Stir occasionally.
- Remove from heat and allow to rest for 2 minutes. Transfer to a serving dish and serve warm.
Notes
Use pre-shredded cabbage to save time.
Stir frequently to prevent sticking or burning.
Adjust vinegar and honey to your taste preferences.
Optional turkey bacon or chicken ham can be added for extra flavor.
