This cake combines the natural sweetness of honey with the warmth of cinnamon and cloves, enhanced by ground nuts and orange juice. Perfect for family gatherings, festive occasions, or a simple afternoon treat, it is versatile, affordable, and delightfully easy to prepare.

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 10 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup finely ground nuts (walnuts or almonds)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup plain yogurt
  • ½ cup sunflower oil
  • ½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • ½ cup Greek honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a 9-inch cake pan with sunflower oil and dust with flour; optionally, line the bottom with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves. Stir in ground nuts.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and sugar until smooth. Add yogurt, sunflower oil, orange juice, and honey, mixing until fully combined.
  4. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. While baking, prepare honey syrup by combining honey, warm water, and orange juice in a small saucepan. Heat gently until dissolved.
  7. Remove cake from oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Poke holes on the surface and pour the honey syrup evenly over the warm cake.
  8. Allow the cake to cool completely before serving.

Notes

Use mild-flavored honey to avoid overpowering the spices.

Adjust nuts and spices according to personal preference.

For a more intense flavor, drizzle additional honey over slices before serving.
