Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 cup finely ground nuts (walnuts or almonds)
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¾ cup plain yogurt
- ½ cup sunflower oil
- ½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- ½ cup Greek honey
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a 9-inch cake pan with sunflower oil and dust with flour; optionally, line the bottom with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves. Stir in ground nuts.
- In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and sugar until smooth. Add yogurt, sunflower oil, orange juice, and honey, mixing until fully combined.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined; do not overmix.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- While baking, prepare honey syrup by combining honey, warm water, and orange juice in a small saucepan. Heat gently until dissolved.
- Remove cake from oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Poke holes on the surface and pour the honey syrup evenly over the warm cake.
- Allow the cake to cool completely before serving.
Notes
Use mild-flavored honey to avoid overpowering the spices.
Adjust nuts and spices according to personal preference.
For a more intense flavor, drizzle additional honey over slices before serving.
