Ingredients
Scale
- 2 slices of bread (white, sourdough, or whole grain)
- 2–3 dill pickles, sliced thinly
- 2 slices of cheddar cheese (or substitute with mozzarella, provolone, or gouda)
- 1 tablespoon butter, softened
- Optional: 1 teaspoon mustard or mayonnaise for spreading
Instructions
- Gather all ingredients and place them on a clean surface for easy assembly.
- Slice the dill pickles thinly into even rounds or strips. Place the slices on a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
- Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each bread slice. Make sure to cover the surface evenly so the bread browns perfectly.
- Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, on a plate or cutting board.
- Lay one slice of cheese on the bread, then add the sliced dill pickles evenly on top.
- Spread mustard or mayonnaise on the unbuttered side of the second slice of bread if desired.
- Place another slice of cheese on top of the pickles, then finish with the second bread slice, butter-side up.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat for about one to two minutes until hot.
- Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for three to four minutes. Press gently with a spatula to ensure even browning.
- Flip the sandwich carefully once the bottom is golden brown. Cook for another three to four minutes until the second side is crisp and the cheese is fully melted.
- Remove from the skillet and let it rest for one minute. Slice diagonally and serve immediately.
Notes
For a bolder taste, use sharp cheddar cheese.
To reduce calories, use whole grain bread and reduced-fat cheese.
Patting the pickles dry is essential to avoid soggy bread.
