Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (one packet)
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- Optional toppings: sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or shredded cheese
Instructions
- Pour warm milk into a bowl, add sugar, and sprinkle yeast on top. Let it sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

- Knead the dough 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Shape dough into a ball, place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1 ½ hours until doubled.
- Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal portions. Roll each into a smooth ball. Arrange on a parchment-lined tray.
- Cover loosely and let rolls rise 30–40 minutes until puffy.
- Brush tops with milk or beaten egg and sprinkle optional toppings.
- Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 18–22 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
Dough can be prepared ahead and refrigerated after the first rise.
Rolls freeze well; thaw and warm before serving.
