Ingredients
- 3–4 medium oranges (organic preferred)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Wash the oranges thoroughly and slice them into 1/4-inch rounds.
- In a medium saucepan, bring water to a gentle boil. Add the orange slices and blanch for 2–3 minutes to reduce bitterness. Drain and set aside.
- In the same saucepan, combine sugar, water, and salt. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and syrup thickens slightly, about 5–7 minutes.
- Add the orange slices to the syrup in a single layer. Reduce heat to low and simmer, turning occasionally, for 45–60 minutes until the slices are translucent and glossy.
- Carefully transfer the slices to a wire rack set over parchment paper. Allow them to cool and dry completely, several hours or overnight.
- Optional: Lightly dust the cooled slices with granulated sugar for added sparkle and texture.
Notes
For variety, try using blood oranges, mandarins, or adding spices like cinnamon or cloves.
Ensure slices are uniform in thickness for even cooking.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator for longer shelf life.
