Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- Zest from one orange
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Pecans or walnuts (optional), chopped finely
- Cream cheese (optional), softened
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine 1 packet of active dry yeast with 1/4 cup warm water (about 110°F). Let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
- In another bowl, mix together your activated yeast mixture with 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter, 2 large eggs, and the zest from one orange. Stir until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined.
- Turn out your dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place your dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size—about an hour.
- Once risen, punch down your dough gently, then shape it into either one large loaf or smaller rolls as desired.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place shaped dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet or into greased loaf pans. Allow rising again for about 30 minutes before baking until golden brown—approximately 25-30 minutes.
