Delicious the best sweet bread recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 2 hours
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • Zest from one orange
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pecans or walnuts (optional), chopped finely
  • Cream cheese (optional), softened

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine 1 packet of active dry yeast with 1/4 cup warm water (about 110°F). Let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix together your activated yeast mixture with 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter, 2 large eggs, and the zest from one orange. Stir until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined.
  5. Turn out your dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place your dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size—about an hour.
  7. Once risen, punch down your dough gently, then shape it into either one large loaf or smaller rolls as desired.
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place shaped dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet or into greased loaf pans. Allow rising again for about 30 minutes before baking until golden brown—approximately 25-30 minutes.

Notes

Store in an airtight container.

Reheat slices in the toaster.

Serve with butter or jam.

Use fresh yeast for fluffiness.
