Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter or non-stick spray and line them with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, ¾ cup of cocoa powder, 1½ teaspoons of baking soda, and 2 cups of granulated sugar until well combined.
- In another bowl, combine 2 large eggs, 1 cup of vegetable oil, 1 cup of buttermilk, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients bowl. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—lumps are okay!
- Gently fold in 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool in pans for about 10 minutes. Then transfer cakes to wire racks to cool completely before frosting with your favorite chocolate frosting.
