Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef, lean
- 4 slices Swiss cheese, thinly sliced
- 4 slices sourdough bread, fresh
- 1 onion, sweet or yellow
- 2 tablespoons butter, for grilling
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon pickles, finely chopped
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine two tablespoons of mayonnaise with one tablespoon of ketchup.
- Stir in one tablespoon of finely chopped pickles until well mixed.
- Set aside the sauce to marinate while preparing the rest.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add one tablespoon of butter.
- Once melted, toss in one sliced onion and sprinkle with a pinch of salt.
- Cook the onions for about 10 minutes until they're soft and caramelized, stirring occasionally.
- In a mixing bowl, take one pound of ground beef and season it with salt and pepper.
- Form the beef into two equal-sized patties, slightly larger than your bread.
- In another skillet, heat over medium-high heat and add another tablespoon of butter.
- Once sizzling, add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side or until desired doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, lay slices of Swiss cheese atop each patty to melt.
- Grab two slices of sourdough bread per sandwich and spread butter on one side of each slice.
- On the non-buttered side, spread a generous amount of secret sauce before placing down your cheesy patty followed by sautéed onions.
- Top with another slice of bread (buttered side out).
- Place the assembled sandwiches back in the skillet over medium heat.
- Grill each side for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
Notes
Store leftover patty melts in airtight containers for freshness.
