Delicious patty melts with secret sauce recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef, lean
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices sourdough bread, fresh
  • 1 onion, sweet or yellow
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for grilling
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon pickles, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine two tablespoons of mayonnaise with one tablespoon of ketchup.
  2. Stir in one tablespoon of finely chopped pickles until well mixed.
  3. Set aside the sauce to marinate while preparing the rest.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add one tablespoon of butter.
  5. Once melted, toss in one sliced onion and sprinkle with a pinch of salt.
  6. Cook the onions for about 10 minutes until they're soft and caramelized, stirring occasionally.
  7. In a mixing bowl, take one pound of ground beef and season it with salt and pepper.
  8. Form the beef into two equal-sized patties, slightly larger than your bread.
  9. In another skillet, heat over medium-high heat and add another tablespoon of butter.
  10. Once sizzling, add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side or until desired doneness.
  11. During the last minute of cooking, lay slices of Swiss cheese atop each patty to melt.
  12. Grab two slices of sourdough bread per sandwich and spread butter on one side of each slice.
  13. On the non-buttered side, spread a generous amount of secret sauce before placing down your cheesy patty followed by sautéed onions.
  14. Top with another slice of bread (buttered side out).
  15. Place the assembled sandwiches back in the skillet over medium heat.
  16. Grill each side for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

Notes

Store leftover patty melts in airtight containers for freshness.

Reheat in a skillet for crispy texture.
