Delicious breakfast butter swim biscuits recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, unbleached
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup whole milk (or low-fat)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In an 8×8 inch baking dish, melt ½ cup of unsalted butter in the oven while it preheats.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  4. Add the cold cubes of butter to your dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or two forks, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Pour in 1 cup of milk gradually while stirring gently with a spatula until just combined.
  6. Carefully pour the mixture over the melted butter already in your baking dish without stirring it in.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together one cup of chicken broth and one tablespoon of sugar until dissolved. Slowly pour this mixture evenly over the biscuit batter.
  8. Bake in your preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown on top and biscuits are cooked through.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container.

Reheat biscuits in a warm oven.

Serve with honey or jam.

Use cold butter for flakier texture.
