Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, unbleached
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup whole milk (or low-fat)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 cup chicken broth
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In an 8×8 inch baking dish, melt ½ cup of unsalted butter in the oven while it preheats.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
- Add the cold cubes of butter to your dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or two forks, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in 1 cup of milk gradually while stirring gently with a spatula until just combined.
- Carefully pour the mixture over the melted butter already in your baking dish without stirring it in.
- In a small bowl, mix together one cup of chicken broth and one tablespoon of sugar until dissolved. Slowly pour this mixture evenly over the biscuit batter.
- Bake in your preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown on top and biscuits are cooked through.
