Ingredients
- Feta Cheese, high-quality and crumbled
- All-Purpose Flour, sifted
- Olive Oil, extra virgin for frying
- Dried Oregano, fresh dried for aroma
- Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed
- Black Pepper, freshly cracked
Instructions
- Begin by cutting the feta cheese into thick slices, about half an inch each.
- In a shallow bowl, combine all-purpose flour with dried oregano and freshly cracked black pepper. Mix well.
- Take each slice of feta and gently coat it in the flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour.
- In a large skillet, pour enough olive oil to cover the bottom generously and heat over medium-high heat until shimmering but not smoking.
- Carefully place the coated feta slices into the hot oil without overcrowding them. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Once fried, transfer your Greek Fried Cheese onto paper towels to drain excess oil. Drizzle with freshly squeezed lemon juice before serving; garnish with additional dried oregano if desired.
Notes
Store leftover Greek fried cheese in an airtight container, refrigerate for up to three days.
Reheat in a skillet over medium heat for crispy texture, avoiding sogginess.
Serve with honey or lemon juice for a delightful flavor contrast.
Use a high-quality cheese for richer taste; Halloumi is an excellent choice!
