Delicious sweet custard bread recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour
  • instant yeast
  • granulated sugar
  • whole milk
  • unsalted butter, softened
  • large eggs
  • pure vanilla extract
  • custard powder or cornstarch
  • fruit juice (like orange or apple)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk with instant yeast and one tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture along with melted butter and eggs. Mix until combined; then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place your dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size.
  4. While waiting for the dough to rise, whisk together custard powder or cornstarch with sugar in a saucepan. Gradually stir in milk (or fruit juice) over medium heat until thickened. Add vanilla extract and set aside to cool slightly.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough gently to release air bubbles. Roll out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick on floured parchment paper. Spread your cooled custard evenly over the dough, leaving about an inch border around the edges.
  6. Carefully roll up the dough from one long edge into a log shape. Pinch seams shut and tuck ends under slightly. Place seam-side down in a greased loaf pan, cover again with cloth, and let rise for another 30-40 minutes until puffed up.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes until golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. Remove from oven; let cool slightly before slicing into glorious pieces.

Notes

Store leftover Sweet Custard Bread in an airtight container for freshness.

Reheat slices in the microwave for 10-15 seconds for optimal warmth.

Serve warm with a dusting of powdered sugar or fresh berries.

For extra richness, add vanilla extract to the custard mixture.
